Evergreen Primary Academy Achieves Trauma-Informed Schools Award

Trauma informed practice

We are incredibly proud to announce that Evergreen Primary Academy has been awarded the Trauma-Informed Schools Award, recognising our commitment to creating a safe, nurturing and supportive environment where every child can thrive.

This achievement reflects the dedication of our staff, who work tirelessly to understand the needs of every child and to build positive, trusting relationships that help pupils feel secure, valued and ready to learn. Through our trauma-informed approach, we recognise that children’s experiences can impact their emotional wellbeing, behaviour and learning, and we are committed to responding with understanding, compassion and support.

Quote from Trauma informed visit: “Evergreen is a warm, ambitious and deeply caring school. It feels like an oasis and a beacon of hope in its community, which it is an integral part of. The strongest feature of the visit was the way the written documentation matched the feel of the school. Kerry and the team have built a culture where high expectations and relational practice sit together rather than compete. The school understands its community well and responds with practical compassion: breakfast, clothing, washing facilities, family support, snacks, attendance conversations, outdoor space and emotionally available adults all form part of the same protective offer.”

Achieving this award demonstrates our whole-school commitment to promoting emotional wellbeing, developing resilience and ensuring that every child feels a sense of belonging within our school community. The assessment praised the caring culture across the academy, the strong relationships between staff and pupils, and the ways in which we support children to regulate their emotions and succeed both academically and personally.

A key part of our journey has been our valued partnership with The Bridge in Schools Foundation, whose expertise and support have helped strengthen our trauma-informed practice across the academy. Through this collaboration, we have been able to provide targeted support for both children and families, ensuring that wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. The Foundation has worked alongside staff, pupils and parents to develop understanding of trauma, build resilience and create positive strategies that support emotional wellbeing. By working together, we are able to offer a more holistic approach, empowering children to thrive in school while providing parents and carers with guidance, resources and opportunities to support their children’s development at home.

We are delighted that our trauma-informed values and practices have been recognised and look forward to continuing this important work for the benefit of all our children.
