Pupils explore sustainable science

Year 5 pupils from Evergreen Primary Academy enjoyed an exciting and educational trip to the Science Creates Centre.
During the visit, pupils took part in a hands-on workshop where they learned how to create their own biodegradable plastic using sodium alginate and calcium chloride. The session allowed children to explore how science and sustainability can work hand in hand, while gaining a deeper understanding of chemical reactions and environmentally friendly materials.
Pupils enthusiastically experimented with the materials, observed the fascinating reactions that took place, and discovered how everyday products can be redesigned to be more eco-friendly. The experience brought classroom learning to life and sparked curiosity about the role of science in protecting the planet.
It was a brilliant practical science experience that inspired young minds and encouraged innovative thinking about the future.
A spokesperson for the academy said: “We are incredibly proud of how engaged and enthusiastic our Year 5 pupils were throughout this visit.
“Experiences like this help bring science to life, showing children how their learning connects to real-world challenges such as sustainability.
“It was wonderful to see their curiosity, teamwork and excitement as they explored new ideas.”
