Y6 trip Bristol Harbourside – Engineering challenge

Dear families,

On Tuesday 15th February, Year 6 will be going on a trip to Bristol Harbour to take part in an engineering challenge called: Rocket Rescue – Cranes, Pulleys and Rockets! The challenge will take place on board MV Balmoral, a historic passenger-liner, in Bristol’s Harbour. Children will work in teams supported by real engineers to explore how ropes, pulleys and ballistics were used to save lives at sea. Teams will build pneumatic rocket launcher and construct a pulley system to send a rescue harness from ship to shore.

To travel to Bristol Harbour, children will take the train from Stapleton Road train station to Temple Meads. From Temple Meads, we will take our own ferry boat across Bristol Harbour to MV Balmoral! At the end of the day, children will get back onto our ferry boat and travel back across the harbour to Temple Meads. Children will get back to school for collection at 3pm.

The cost of this trip is £7.40 (or £6.50 for children receiving free school meals). This covers the cost of the challenge, train and hiring our own ferry boat!

Kind regards,

The Year 6 Team
