Reception pupils learn about bees at Evergreen Academy

Reception pupils at Evergreen Primary Academy had a buzzing time learning all about why bees are so important and how they help our environment.

The engaging session was held to mark World Bee Day, which is celebrated annually on 20 May to raise awareness about the essential role of bees and other pollinators, the threats they face, and their crucial contribution to sustainable development. The day was established by the United Nations.

As part of the learning experience, pupils were excited to spot real honey bees in action, pollinating flowers right in their own playground.

A school spokesperson said: “Pupils were fascinated to learn about the role bees play in keeping our ecosystems healthy.

“Seeing bees at work in our school garden really brought the lesson to life.

“It’s vital that we teach the next generation how to care for our planet, and understanding pollinators is a great place to start.”
